Objectives
To investigate the 2-[125I]-iodomelatonin binding sites in the gonads: the establishment of 2-[125I]-iodomelatonin binding sites in the gonads would provide important insight into the site and mechanisms of pineal melatonin action. In addition, melatonin is a hormone and is safe for pharmacological usage. Direct action of pineal melatonin on the gonads would also imply the possibility of the use of melatonin and its analoges for population control and/or increase in farm production in the future.
