Dirk Noël studied English, Dutch and linguistics at the University of Antwerp and holds a PhD in English linguistics from Ghent University. Prior to coming to HKU, he held teaching and research posts at the universities of Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven. His past research has included work on clausal complement constructions involving cognition, utterance and perception verbs, contrastive (English/French/Dutch) verb valency, bilingual lexicography, textual coherence, and the language of radio news bulletins. His current research is situated at the crossroads of cognitive linguistics (particularly construction grammar) and grammaticalization theory.
