Alistair is an early-career criminologist with broad-ranging interests spanning sociology, law, social policy, anthropology, social theory and cultural studies.
Prior to joining the University of Hong Kong, Alistair worked as a Research Assistant at the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, carrying out a variety of funded research projects on youth violence, community policing, female offending, and oral history.
His interests lie particularly in the study of youth crime and justice in a global and comparative context, with specialist expertise in the field of youth gangs. He is an experienced ethnographer and qualitative researcher, having carried out fieldwork in Glasgow, Chicago and Hong Kong, as well as a number of evaluations of youth justice interventions.
