AbstractA super water-absorbent resin was synthesized from the sodium salt of acrylic acid with N,N'-dihydroxyethylacrylamide as comonomer, cyclohexane as dispersing medium,N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide as crosslinking agent and K 2S 2O 8 as initiator,by means of inverted emulsion polymerization. The effects of the amount used of comonomer, crosslinking agent and initiator on the absorption rate of water, alcohol and salt as well as on the speed of absorption and rate of water-retaining were investigated. The water-absorbent speed is very fast, and the rates of absorption for deionized water,0- 9% NaCl solution and 50% alcohol are found to be 1484g/g, 687g/g and 705g/g respectively.
