AbstractWe hypothesized the companionship of a close other would buffer the influences of ostracism, and trait self-esteem would moderate this effect. Consistent with predictions, companionship of a close other (vs. stranger) made participants to be less threatened by ostracism and this effect was only emerged for participants with high self-esteem.
