AbstractCobalt(II) complexes of oligopyridine and related ligands were analyzed in context of dynamic combinatorial libraries. It was found that the kinetic lability of the d cobalt(II) center combined with the strength of the Co-N bonds allowed the construction of thermodynamically stable libraries of complexes from the reaction of cobalt(II) salts with mixture of ligands. It was observed that H NMR spectra of these complexes were paramagnetically shifted and were characteristic of the individual complexes. It was shown that exchange rates were within the area of medium to slow chemical exchange on the NMR spectroscopy time scale.
