DescriptionFollowing the results in the investigation of comparison in the effectiveness of the computerized minimal pairs treatment program and traditional minimal pairs treatment in the remediation of phonological processes in school-aged children by Carl Parsons & Lisa Shaw-Stuart (1992), it showed that both treatment were equally effective in the suppression of phonological processes. Generalization to untrained words and to spontaneous speech was also equal for both treatments. Furthermore, it was reported that the children found the computerized Minimal pairs treatment program motivating. With the introduction of computer into education, drill and practice programs have been used extensively. Current drill and practice programs receive much criticism. They are criticized for being unpleasant and do not capitalize on the full potential of the computer. Much can be done to improve computer-based drill and practice. An educational computer program called "Boo" was developed following the criteria delineated in the literature and recommendations in Lisa Shaw-Stuart & Carl Parson's research. The influence of individual instruction and the game format were incorporated into their computerized drill and practice task in the development of the computerized Minimal pairs treatment program. This study investigated the effectiveness of embedding a drill and practice task within a game environment in the remediation of phonological processes in school-aged children in comparison to the computerized minimal pairs treatment program that has been experimented by Lisa & Carl's (1992) research. However due to the limitation of time and resources, this study will concentrate on one aspect of the phonological processes - the final consonant deletion. The study also investigates the relationship between the learner's level of support by either speech pathologists or parents.
