Issue Date2002
DescriptionCIVCAL is a comprehensive web-site, designed as a multimedia educational package to support undergraduate teaching and learning in civil engineering and building & construcion. It facilitates 'virtual site visits', bringing 'the field' to the students, to compensate for the increasing difficulties in taking students to the field. CIVCAL contains photographic images, animations, video clips and other devices with explanatory text that aim to convey useful experiences from past and present Hong Kong construction and engineering services sites. Four universities contributed to the development of the site. The University of Hong Kong provided 13 projects and 12 topics covering 6 disciplines; Hong Kong University of Science and Technology developed a comprehensive site on the Strategic Sewage Disposal Scheme; City University of Hong Kong developed a Virtual Building Construction Environment with 3 examples of prefabricated construction; the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong developed 6 case studies on aspects of building construction.
construction, environmental engineering, geology, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, structures, water, waste-water, civil engineering, building, transportation engineering
See plug-in requirements on web-site
