AbstractTo assess whether seismic detailing is necessary for reinforced concrete buildings in Hong Kong, a study of the earthquake force demand and yield capacity of a generic building is presented. Seismic provisions of the New Zealand and the American concrete design codes are reviewed. Their relevance for Hong Kong design practice is discussed.
