Objectives
1 To provide the first critical, historical assessment of the P&T Group, one of the oldest, most prolific architectural practices in the world; 2 To use the firm as a case-study in an effort to expand the scope of existing literature on the history of architectural production in Hong Kong, which remains largely limited to stylistic analyses of a handful of prominent colonial-era landmarks; 3 To position the firm and its work within new and emerging architectural historical discourses regarding the history of practice, expertise, clientele, and corporate design activity around the world; 4 To contextualize P&T Group’s production within both colonial and post-colonial theoretical frameworks and the historical study of corporations to better understand the relationship between architectural services, capital, and imperial governance; 5 To utilize this research in introducing the public to a previously unexamined trove of archival material donated by P&T Group to The University of Hong Kong and M+, Hong Kong’s Museum of Visual Culture and Design.
