Dr. Philip Wing-Lok Ho obtained his PhD degree in the Department of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong in 2004 and went on to study the functional role of mitochondrial uncoupling protein homologues in the neuronal system. He is currently a research assistant professor in the University of Hong Kong. His research focus includes exploring 1) the neuroprotective and functional properties of neuronal uncoupling proteins (UCPs); and 2) the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress using in vitro and in vivo experimental models. Furthermore, Dr Ho is one of the inventers in designing novel protein tag and production of its corresponding antibodies in his current development of a novel kit in assessing environmental estrogenic compounds. This invention will be useful in developing novel assays of estrogenic endocrine disruptors, e.g. xenoestrogenic compounds and plasticizers. The application of the assay is filed in US, Europe, and China under patent protection.
