Short Biography:

Dr. Wai Ting Siok received her Ph.D. in Psychology and Education from the University of Hong Kong. After a two-year postdoctoral training at Stanford University Psychology Department and the Stanford Institute of Reading and Learning, she started to work in the Department of Linguistics of HKU in 2004. The studies conducted by Dr. Siok and her collaborators have revealed that the activity level of the left middle frontal cortex serves as a neurobiological marker of Chinese dyslexia. Her main research interest is to investigate the cognitive and neuroanatomical mechanisms underlying normal and dyslexic reading using behavioral tests and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, DTI & MEG) and to translate the basic research findings into educational practice. She has published several papers in prestigious journals, including Nature, PNAS and Current Biology.
