AbstractLexical tone is an essential component in most of the languages in the world. However, how tone-speaking children develop and master this important feature in their language remains unclear. This presentation will provide an overview of the major studies on children’s acquisition of Mandarin and Cantonese tones, introduce a modified protocol for examining children’s tone productions, and present the latest findings in children’s tone productions. Implications of the new findings will be discussed.
