Abstract | Previous studies indicated that lexical tones are acquired by children by two years of age and before the mastery of segmental productions. This talk presents a study that adopted a different approach to examine children’s development of Mandarin tones. The results showed that children as old as five years of age do not produce the four Mandarin tones with adult-like accuracy. |
