Abstract | The article focuses on the divergences in economic performance and housing market conditions in Singapore, Hong Kong in China, South Korea and Taiwan since the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and 1998. The measures which were implemented to revive the housing market are discussed. It argues that the openness of its economy exposed Hong Kong to external economic conditions and financial crisis than the more closed economy of South Korea. There were no drastic reversal of housing policies in Singapore and Taiwan. |
