Objectives
1 To investigate the effect of micro-structured surfaces on the particle deposition rate in turbulent flows. The effects of increase in surface area and turbulent eddies generation on particle deposition will be studied; 2 A particle deposition velocity model will be developed by an experimental approach and also to explore the near-wall turbulence structure around micro-structured surfaces using the particle deposition data; 3 To design a novel micro-structured surface to acquire the highest particle deposition rate. The geometrical dimensions, shape and spacing of the micro-structure will be optimized; 4 To develop a particle removal system assisted by the optimal micro-structured surface. The performance of the particle removal system enhanced by the micro-structured surface under different operation conditions will be evaluated.
