Objectives
Data trading, not only limited to financial data, is an emerging business. The Global Big Data Exchange in Guiyang of China is an example platform. Their cumulative transactions already exceeds 120 million yuan (last two years). But the service charge is expensive (up to 40% of the data price). All activities are monitored by the exchange. Security and privacy may be a concern. A better approach is to use the decentralized blockchain framework. Our objective is to design and implement a blockchain-based data trading platform. The market of data trading will continue to expand. Not only raw data, but also data mining of combined data from different sellers and statistical information will become (or already be) the core commodities in this market. The technical innovation of our project is a model enabling computation on encrypted data in blockchain. Existing privacy-preserving cryptographic schemes on encrypted data will be extended for blockchain. Based on an incentive model, players can help to compute the trading results on encrypted data. Such a secure, privacy-preserving decentralized data trading platform with low service change could take up a substantial share of this market, and also could put Hong Kong in a leading position in this direction.
