Objectives
1 Primary objective To evaluate the amount of future liver remnant volume increment by percentage after stage I ALPPS 2 Secondary objective To evaluate the preoperative blood loss between laparoscopic and open stage 1 ALPPS 3 To evaluate the length of hospital stay after laparoscopic stage 1 ALPPS in comparison with open approach 4 To assess the overall morbidity and mortality rates after laparoscopic stage 1 ALPPS in comparison with open approach 5 To evaluate the inflammatory markers e.g. IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha associated with inflammation and regeneration after stage 1 ALPPS between laparoscopic and open approach. This could be performed by - measurement of plasma inflammatory markers such as IL-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor at 6, 12 and 24 hours after stage I ALPPS, - polymerase chain reaction for IL-6, IL-10 and tumor necrosis factor in future liver remnant tissues obtained in stage I ALPPS and II ALPPS - immunohistochemical study to measure the expression of Ki-67 ( a marker for liver regeneration) in liver tissues obtained in stage I and II ALPPS
