Objectives
(1) To comprehensively study and produce a database on the effects of thermo-mechanicalprocessing on the lead leaching in a representative collection of commercially sourceable waterpipecomponents under the General Acceptance (GA) system of the Water Supplies Department (WSD)of the Hong Kong SAR Government.(2) To use advanced microscopy techniques to understand the thermo-mechanically induced leadsegregation mechanism within potable-water grade copper alloys.(3) To establish and verify a new scaling method, taking into account the lead segregationmechanism, to predict the lead leaching effects in real-scale waterpipe networks from small-sizedtestable samples.
