Objectives
1 Design and implement an advanced optogenetic fMRI methodology that combines optogenetic activation/deactivation of thalamo-cortical excitatory neurons with fMRI with high sensitivity and experimental efficiency in awake (unanesthetized) rats using our 7 Tesla MRI. 2 Identify similarities/differences in optogenetically initiated spindle-like activities in the various sensory thalamic nucleus (i.e., VPM/LGN/MGB) and their respective brain-wide targets. 3 Explore the functional roles of brain-wide spindle-like activities via optogenetics, sensory task-based fMRI, and behavioral experiments.
