To study the flow structures and their interaction of tall buildings in Hong Kong. The study will be based on model testings of the tall buildings in wind tunnel and will investigate in detail the effect of height, spacings between buildings and their shapes on the flow fields set up. It will also study the pressure forces set up on the buildings due to the shedding and interaction of the different vortices shed from the buildings and the possibility of flow structure interaction resulting in unnecessary excitation on the buildings. The research will lead to fuller understanding of the wind loads on the closely spaced buildings in the high rise city of Hong Kong and will facilitate safer design of tall buildings not only in Hong Kong but other in cities of the world.
