Objectives
There are six periods in Chinese history: Ch'in, Chin, Sui, Sung, Yuan and the Republic of China, in which the divided country became reunited under one sovereignty. This research will focus on the causes, the processes, and consequences of these reunifications. In particular, it will investigate the integration process of each reunification and seek to establish the principal influences, both positive and negative, on Chinese history. The aim of this research project is to produce a monograph consisting of six chapters (one on each period). It is intended not only as a contribution to academic knowledge but also as a summation of the lessons of history which may guide the development of contemporary China.
