Objectives
Hepatectomy results in amputation of hepatic vascular bed. As the remaining part of the liver regenerates after resection, liver funciton is progressively restored. Little is known about the evolution of resistance offered to portal blood flow by the regenerating normal or cirrhotic liver: although regeneration of hepatocytes and restoration of liver function has been extensively studied the restoration of hepatic vascular space during liver regeneration has not been investigated. The objective of this study is to study on a rat model in vitro, characteristics of resistance to portal flow during liver regeneration and to compare these results with histologic characteristics of intra-hepatic blood channels.
