Objectives
To examine fucoidans from the abundant local seaweed Sargassum hemiphyllum in order to achieve, a) an understanding of the pattern and manner of algal synthesis of fucoidans, b) details of the structure of the polysaccharide and how it interacts with other polymers. The results will be of direct relevance to any attempt to improve fucoidan production and to optimise its application.
