(1) Development of metrics, indices and pathways for sustainable urban road and street pavements;(2) Development of new pavement structural systems with optimized combinations of concrete andsteel structures;(3) Development of new pavement surface materials with enhanced engineering performance andenvironmentally friendly features;(4) Integration of intelligent transport systems (ITS) in the pavements and establishment of Internet ofThings (IoT) network for smart city development;(5) Integration of solar photovoltaic panels for energy generation and LED lighting systems in thepavements;(6) Development of automatic construction methods for the prefabricated pavement systems,construction of the systems on roads, and using the built systems as test beds for scientific andengineering studies.
