Objectives
The project will quantify the effect of DNA methylation on nucleotide, codon and amino acid substitution patters; integrate the methylation effect on codon usage into current hypotheses on codon usage bias; and develop computer programs for comparative sequence anaylsis by automating analytical procedures such as data retrieval from GenBank, data compilation and manipulation, phylogenetic reconstruction, and phylogeny-based comparative analysis.
