Objectives
To determine whether the above genetic variants are associated with (a) central obesity (b) insulin resistance and (c) other components of the Metabolic Syndrome (obesity, impaired glucose tolerance, hypertension or dyslipidaemia) in a cross-sectional study of 644 non-diabetic Southern Chinese; to investigate in a 5-year prospective study whether these genetic variants are predictive of the cumulative incidence of type 2 diabetes or hypertension in this cohort.
