Dr. Ricky Tso obtained his PhD with a specialisation in education psychology (EP) from the HKU. He served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at EdUHK from 2017-2023, where he serves as the supervisor and co-founder of the Psychological Assessment and Clinical Research Unit. In 2022, he was selected as one of the Emerging Research Scholars. He is a registered teacher, a registered practitioner in EP and Associate Fellow in Hong Kong Psychological Society, a Member of Register of Educational Psychologists accredited by Department of Health, as well as a Registered Practitioner Psychologist (Educational Psychologist), HCPC, UK.
As an EP-trained researcher, Dr. Tso's work aims to uncover the neuro-cognitive mechanisms of learning and translate his research findings into practice. His research interests include face recognition, literacy and language development, developmental dyslexia, ethnic minority education, and mental health and learning in special populations. To investigate these areas, he employs a range of research methods, including behavioral, cognitive, and electrophysiological techniques such as electroencephalography (EEG). Dr. Tso's research aims at improving our understanding of learning and cognition and for developing effective interventions to support students with diverse learning needs.
