Dr He Baoting joined the School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong following completion of her Master's programme at the Sun Yat-sen University and PhD programme at the University of Hong Kong. Her primary research interest centres around examining the long-term risk of non-communicable diseases in children from a life-course perspective. Specifically, her research investigates the association of growth and development during early life (i.e. birth weight, preterm birth, growth trajectories and pubertal timing) with respiratory and cardiometabolic outcomes. These studies were conducted by analysing the longitudinal cohort data from the “Children of 1997” Hong Kong Chinese birth cohort and utilising the publicly available data in the Mendelian randomization study design. Additionally, she is experienced in research on how maternal intrauterine exposures (such as maternal lung function and gestational diabetes mellitus) impact offspring birth outcomes using Mendelian randomization studies. Her recent research interests also encompass exploring the association of other modifiable risk factors such as diet, nutrition, microbiome and environmental exposures, and other relevant early-life factors with respiratory and cardiometabolic outcomes in adulthood, utilising omics data (i.e., genomics, metabolomics, and microbiome). She has been awarded funding for two research projects funded by the Health and Medical Research Fund of the Health Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR.
