AbstractBACKGROUND: Liver regeneration is a unique response aimed to restore liver mass after resection or injury. It is believed that many mediators are newly expressed or increased their expression after loss of parenchymal liver mass. The sequence of events triggering liver regeneration has been investigated for a decades. However, the mechanisms involved in liver regeneration and the proliferation capacity of hepatocyte are not completely known. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, female ICR (CD-1) micewere used for major hepatectomy. Blood samples were acquired by sacrificing three mice at 30 min, 2, 6, 12 hours and 1, 3, 5, 7 days after hepatectomy (PHx). Proteomes of plasma samples were analysed by 2D gel electrophoresis strategy. Liver regeneration-associated proteins were identified by comparing the proteomes of resected tissues and plasma at different time points after PHx. Liver tissue and plasma from mice without PHx were used as controls. RESULTS: 21 differentially expressed spots were identified and classified according to their functional properties such as proteins related to metabolism, transportation, and immunoglobulin proteins and so on.
