AbstractEvidence of the emergence of staff development activity can be seen in the programs offered by 'teaching and learning centers' that are now a component of a majority of universities. While success of such programs varies, recent research related to the relationship between staff development and student learning outcomes supports the beliefs that good teaching has positive impacts on student learning outcomes and also that teachers can be assisted to improve the quality of their teaching. During the roundtable discussion, ideas that emerged from an international research project on perceptions and beliefs of award winning faculty about creative ways to provide academic professional development opportunities will be shared. Participants in the roundtable will be invited to discuss and explore creative ways for staff developers to inspire and motivate faculty.
