Abstract | Two new singlet electronic transitions, consisting of sequences near 8400 and 9200 Å, have been recorded by Fourier transform emission spectroscopy, where the source was a microwave discharge in flowing VOCl 3 vapor mixed with helium. Rotational analysis shows that these are probably 1Σ +- 1Σ + and 1Δ- 1Δ transitions, and arguments are presented indicating that the carrier is VO +, for which no previous spectroscopic observations have been reported. The lower electronic states of both transitions show highly anomalous centrifugal distortion effects, presumably as a result of rotational perturbations: The perturbing electronic state may be the 3Δ state which arises from the same configuration as the lower 1Δ state. © 1984. |
