AbstractIn this paper it has been shown that the boundary collocation method can be used to evaluate the torsional rigidity and the third mode stress intensity factor for a straight bar with arbitrary section containing two edge cracks. The special case, i.e., the circular section, is considered in detail and the results agree very well with the existing solution [1, 6]. For the general case, numerical examples for the elliptical and rectangular cross sections are also studied and the results are given in graphical form for application. © 1991 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
