Abstract | A newly developed technique, temperature programmed fractionation mass spectrometry (TPF-MS), which can constitute a version of pyrolysis-mass spectrometry, has been found to be useful in the thermal analysis of polymers. The activation energy for polystyrene pyrolysis has been found to be 60-70 kcal/mol and that for polyethylene pyrolysis 54-66 kcal/mol. Another application of TPF-MS, that of thin layer chromatography (TLC)/TPF-MS is also described. © 1983. |
