AbstractRock caverns constructed in the igneous rock underlying much of Hong Kong and their uses are discussed. These include openings made in connection with water supply, mass transit and sewage treatment projects. Current plans centre on the placement of environmentally unattractive activities such as sewage treatment and refuse handling underground. Examples of these and other cavern uses are given.
