Inter-relationships among ages of emergence of teeth. A prospective longitudinal study of Swedish children from birth to 18 years.

Abstract

Data on tooth emergence have been collected from birth to 18 years for 212 randomly selected Swedish urban children (90 girls and 122 boys) who have been followed in a prospective longitudinal and interdisciplinary study of growth and development in children in a Swedish urban community. The relationships in the emergence times of the individual teeth within and between the two dentitions were investigated. The correlations between the primary teeth and the permanent successors were weaker (r = 0.2-0.5) than the correlations within the primary dentition (r = 0.3-0.7) and the permanent dentition (r = 0.4-0.8), respectively. © 1988 European Orthodontic Society.
