AbstractMicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding small RNAs that play important roles in a variety of biological pathways including cellular proliferation and apoptosis. Recent studies have linked the expression of selected miRNAs to carcinogenesis and viral pathogenesis. Here, we will discuss examples of roles served by cellular miRNAs and virus-encoded miRNAs in the development of cancers and viral diseases. © 2007 Bentham Science Publishers Ltd.
