AbstractWe show how two "observed" properties of millisecond pulsars - a very small nonaxisymmetry in the mass distribution and the near-orthogonality between the rotational and the magnetic axis - can find very natural explanation within the context of the collapse formation and evolution of such objects modeled by uniform density ellipsoids. This could also provide alternate explanations to the observed spin-up of some pulsars in globular clusters.
