Abstract | We analyze the experimentally observed fractional quantum Hall states using the hierarchical scheme. It is argued that the hierarchy theory of the fractional quantum Hall effect naturally leads to an asymmetry in the developments of the quasihole and quasiparticle branches. This asymmetry in the hierarchy qualitatively explains the strength and the order of all the odd-denominator fractional fillings observed to date. © 1989 The American Physical Society. |
