Abstract | Background. This study examines the measurement properties and
factor structure of the Chinese version of the Aging Sexual Knowledge and Attitudes Scale (ASKAS) for use in social work students. Method. 204 social work students completed a questionnaire consisting of the ASKAS, the Kogan Attitude Toward Old People (KAOP) Scale, and the open-mindedness subscale of the Multicultural Personality Questionnaire (MPQ).
Results. The ASKAS knowledge subscale had good known-group
validity in differentiating students with different elderly-related
training and work experience. The ASKAS attitude subscale correlated with the KAOP Scale and the open-mindedness subscale of the MPQ. The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.85 for both of knowledge and attitude subscales. A 2-factor structure was identified in the ASKAS, consistent with the knowledge and attitude subscales.
Conclusions. The Chinese version of the ASKAS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing knowledge of and attitudes toward sexuality in an elderly Chinese population. |
