AbstractThe concept of possible selves was proposed in 1986 and has since been implemented in many different contexts such as schools, prisons, career planning and sports training. This paper describes how the concept can be put into practice in mental health settings for people in recovery from severe and persistent mental illness. Future studies are required to establish the clinical utility and effectiveness of the proposed intervention.
