An electropalatographic description of Cantonese speech

Abstract

Six normal adult speakers of Cantonese provided electropalatographic recordings of 13 Cantonese lingual phonemes in /aCai context. Although the EPG patterns reflected the expected articulatory placement of alveolar, palatal and velar palate zones for the targets, there was inter-subject variation that suggests caution in setting expectations for performance in EPG therapy. The findings have implications for speech therapy and cross-language studies of articulatory patterns.
