AbstractThe use of the FLAIR system for galaxy redshift determinations is examined. A redshift catalog for a sample of 116 galaxies derived from COSMOS data is presented and studied. The design of the FLAIR system and the procedures used to acquire the data are described. Redshifts collected in the blue and red spectral regions are compared. The FLAIR system is useful for obtaining redshifts in the blue to + or - 140 km/s for normal galaxies with a magnitude limit of less than or equal to 16.8 and for galaxies in the red with magnitude limits of less than or equal to 17.8, the redshift detection accuracy is + or - 60 km/s. It is noted that this FLAIR system is applicable for redshfit surveys covering large areas of sky to moderate depth.
