| Abstract | This chapter blends action research, reflective practice, and journalistic storytelling principles in the exploration of how and why a news literacy curriculum developed by journalism educators at Stony Brook University in New York has spread to numerous countries overseas. Literature on journalistic frames of reference, media literacy, and news literacy is explored first. Details on the Stony Brook news literacy curriculum and the Stony Brook Center for News Literacy Overseas Partnership Program are included next. These discussions are followed by descriptions of how the curriculum has been taught in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Poland. The chapter concludes with details on the future directions of a global community of news literacy practice connected by Stony Brook-affiliated instructional centers in Asia and Eastern Europe. |
