AbstractUnder the design background of MES and seamless integration for the ERP, which should meet cross-platform interface for service of process real-time interactive data, limited network bandwidth, data capacity, and data complicated to operate, the idea of "middleware" was proposed in this paper. Then "Interface middleware", "both- sides- design" concept and design of the interface middleware protocol were introduced. Finally, a cross - Platform interface design was explored according to the definitions and protocol. This paper takes the interface between Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for Discrete Manufacturing (DM) and SAP for example to illustrate the methodology and application of "middleware interface".
