AbstractThe main purpose of the paper is to introduce readers to some of the key development now taking place in mediation as a form of dispute resolution in China. There is in China a number of different institutional contexts within which mediation is used for handling disputes. Over the past decade or so, there have been attempts to institutionalize mediation, to resource it better, and to give it more legitimacy and legal force.
