Abstract | Oral piercings have become increasingly popular among the younger generation in the recent years. The tongue and lips being the most common site of piercing. This seemingly harmless form of body art has proved to bring about local and systemic complications. This review covers a range of its complications that have been documented, such as chipped teeth, bifid tongue, gingival recession and systemic bacterial infections. Clinicians should advised their patients with oral piercings or those who plan on acquiring this art, on the effects of oral piercings. © Nova Science Publishers, Inc. |
