AbstractThe paper read was on the preliminary practices and preparations required of a Samatha meditator who intend to achieve and experience higher concentration states of mind known as absorptions. It discusses the definition of concentration, impediments, ascetic practices, meditation subjects, and personality types. The study examines relevant Abhidhammic expositions included in the Visuddhimagga, a meditation manual of the Theravada tradition.
