Abstract | The discussion around the relationship between real-estate developments and coastal conditions has long been established. However, if we can reexamine this discourse through an untapped lens of sand, the “land-making” material beginning to procure a condition of scarcity, new perspectives might be gained. On the one hand, in light of the ubiquitous nature of sand in the development process, reevaluating the existing land-making methods and developing new reclamation process with technological advancement and operational flexibility are needed. On the other hand, recognizing the increasing vulnerability of coastal developments due to climate change, reconsidering the stereotyped development models and creating more resilient, dynamic, and innovative forms of real-estate developments on reclaimed land are indispensable. |
