AbstractAbdominal hysterectomy is a major operation and can significantly impact on a woman’s physical as well as mental wellbeing. Therefore, it is paramount that health care professionals should take all necessary precautions to ensure a successful surgical outcome with minimal morbidity and mortality. Additionally, it is important to allow adequate time for preparation prior to surgery. Each patient should be carefully assessed by both the surgeons and the anaesthesiologists before the operation. Close collaboration with other medical specialists may also be necessary in order to optimize the patient’s pre-existing medical conditions.
